¿De donde nació la idea de hacer este musical?

La idea de la película surgió cuando yo estaba hablando con un buen amigo, que también es un músico muy talentoso. Estábamos hablando de Blink-182 y
de su música, y de cómo con cada uno de sus álbums progresaban y se mostraban mas maduros. Cada canción que creaban, traía una historia distinta, y nos pareció que era algo digno de contar. Yo siempre he estado interesado en realizar películas con música incorporada, hace varios años. Incluso he intentado, sin éxito comenzar a hacer un musical de Star Wars. La música de Blink182 parecía la oportunidad perfecta y decidimos seguir adelante con el proyecto.

¿Tuvieron problemas para utilizar las letras de las canciones originales?

Fue un gran reto primero intentar adaptar las canciones a nuestra historia.
Blink182 significa muchas cosas diferentes, para diferentes tipos de personas, y cada uno ha hecho sus propias asociaciones con las canciones.

Por lo que tuvimos que ser bastante cuidadosos cuando intentamos escribir la historia para lograr un significado para la gente.
Lo que realmente nos ayudó fue la fuerza que traen la composición de las canciones. Utilizamos muchas canciones del Seltifled (Album: Blink182), por lo que nos vimos capacitados para utilizar hasta la mas profunda de sus letras.

¿En que se basaron para la elección de los actores?

Cuando llegó el casting de actores, buscamos personas que, pensamos,
serían capaces de darle vida a nuestros personajes. El llamado fue específicamente para actores más jóvenes, por lo que hicimos las audiciones en el sur de California, el lugar de nacimiento de Blink, para tratar de encontrar a las personas correctas. Muchas de las canciones de Blink son muy emocionales, y queríamos que los cantantes reflejaran esto.

Más bien, buscamos cantantes de formación clásica, personas que pueden cantar con carácter, y actuar a través de su canto. Esto ayudó a que las canciones sean más creíbles, y que tuvieran una mejor adaptación dentro de la historia. Y, por supuesto, también buscamos actores que tenía una pasión por Blink y que apreciaran lo que estábamos tratando de hacer,

¿Los integrantes de la banda están enterados de la realización del musical film?
Hemos enviado muestras del film a Travis a través de algunos amigos que trabajan con el en Famous Stars and Straps. Cuando la película esté completa le enviaremos una copia, así mismo a Mark Hoppus y a Tom Delonge.

¿De que manera será distribuida la película?

Reckless Abandon es un largometraje completamente independiente, por lo que nuestra distribución es limitada, por el momento lanzaremos un pequeño DVD. Esperamos tener disponible el film completo en Internet en el futuro.

¿Podremos verla en otros continentes como Latinoamerica?

Por el momento la película será lanzada el 29 de Diciembre, desafortunadamente no estará disponible para otros países. Estamos intentando subirla para que los fans fuera del país puedan verla también.

Teniendo en cuenta los fans que no hablan inglés, ¿Podremos tener la traducción?

Ahora no tenemos planes de subtitularla, pero no nos cerramos a ninguna posibilidad.  Queremos entrar en conversaciones con traductores que estén disponibles para ayudarnos en la integración de subtitulos para quienes no hablan ingles.

¿Por qué solo canciones acústicas?

Tenemos cerca de 15 canciones con letras en la película, así como varias mas en instrumental. Intentamos utilizar una variedad de estilos tales como acústica, ambiental y electrónica. Queremos mostrar la parte mas oscura de Blink, diferente a la que la mayoría de la gente conoce, y tratamos de reflejar la música en los sentimientos.

¿Cómo se costearon los gastos de la producción del film?

Estuvimos abiertos a realizar la película gracias a las generosas donaciones de inversionistas privados que estaban interesados en el film. Estamos muy agradecidos de las donaciones y el apoyo de todos los que ayudaron en la financiación y producción de la película.

¿Cuánto demoró la realización de la película?

La primera ves que comenzamos con la idea del film fue en Agosto de 2008. Empezamos trabajando en el guión así como en los demos para la mayoría de las canciones. Comenzamos grabando en Junio del 2009 y la producción partió a comienzos de Septiembre. Desde ahí comenzó la edición de la película, y ahora estamos listos para el lanzamiento de este 29 de Diciembre.

ENGLISH VERSION

Where did you get the idea of making this musical
The idea for the film came about when I was talking to a good friend of mine who is also a very talented musician. We were discussing Blink-182 and their music, and how with each album their music progressed and showed increasing maturity.
The songs that they were producing seemed to tell a story, and we felt that story was worthy of telling. I’ve always been interested in making films that incorporated music, several years ago I even tried, unsuccessfully to get a Star Wars Musical started. A Blink-182 musical seemed like the perfect opportunity and we decided to push ahead with the project.

Did you have any trouble using the lyrics of original songs?
It was a bit challenging at first to try to adapt these well known songs into our own story. Blink-182 means a lot of different things to different people, and everyone has made their own associations with each song.
So we had to be careful when trying to write a story that would use these songs to create a new meaning for people. What really helped us out though was the strength of Blink’s songwriting. We used a lot of songs from the self titled album, so we were really able to utilize some of their deeper lyrics

What information did you relied upon for the election of the actors
When it came to casting our actors, we looked for people that we thought would be able to bring our characters to life. The script called for mostly younger actors, so we held auditions in Southern California, the birthplace of Blink, to try to find the right matches. A lot of Blink’s songs are very raw and emotional, and we wanted the singing styles to reflect that.
So rather that cast the most classically trained singers, we looked more for
people who could sing with character, and act through their singing. This helped to make the songs seem more believable, and flow better within the story. And of course we were also looking for actors who had a passion for Blink and would appreciate what we were trying to do

Are the memebers of blink 182 aware of the performance of the musical film?
We’ve sent previews of the film to Travis Barker through a close friend who works with him at Famous Stars and Straps. When the film is complete we will be sending him a copy, as well as reaching out to Mark Hoppus and Tom Delonge as well.

In what away is the film going to be distributed?
Reckless Abandon is an independently released feature film, so our distribution is limited for the time being to a small DVD release.
We hope to be able to stream the entire film online at some point in the future though.

Are we going to be able to see the film in other continents of the world , for example latin America
At the time of the film’s release on December 29th, there unfortunately won’t be a way for other countries to view the film. We are working on trying to broadcast the film online so that fans out of the country will be able to view it as well.

Considering the fans that do not speak english, are subtitles going to be available
We don’t have immediate plans to subtitle the film, but we never want to rule out any possibilities. We would be open to talking to translators who would be able to assist us in adding subtitles for non-English speaking viewers.

Why only acoustic songs?
We have about 15 songs with lyrics in the film, and several more instrumental versions as well. We tried to use a variety of musical styles, such as acoustic, ambient, and electronic. We wanted to showcase a darker side of Blink-182 than most people were used to, and tried to make the music reflect those feelings

How was the expenses of the production on the film financed?
We were able to finance the film through the generous donations of private investors who were interested in the film. We are incredibly grateful for the donations and support of everyone who helped in the funding and production of the film.

How long was the making of the film?
The first time I brought up the idea of the film was in August of 2008. We started working on script shortly afterwards, as well as the demos for most of the songs. We began filming in early June of 2009 and wrapped production at the beginning of September. From there we began editing and scoring the film, and are now preparing for a December 29th limited release.
